My program focuses on developing the individual while building a foundation for a successful team.  Effort, respect, and responsibility are what I ask from my players.  Structure, skill, teamwork and discipline are the concepts that will drive every practice. 

 

Coaches

Off ice program       Mark Tagg

Balance of conditioning, strength, speed and agility

1.   Plyometric training

·         Jumps – lateral, vertical, box

·         Pushups – clap, medicine ball, shoulder tap

·         Medicine ball – chops, slams, throws, twists

2.   Circuit training   2-3 circuits approximately 10 minutes each.  Each exercise goes for 45 seconds to simulate an on ice shift

·         Jump rope, jumping jacks, lunges, rows, situps, pushups, planks, deadlifts

3.   Speed / agility

·         Sprints, ladder, obstacle course

4.   Outdoor practice / roller hockey -  Borden Park & The New Rink (Shelby)

This is an excellent way to work on individual skills as well as team concepts without wasting valuable ice time.  Roller hockey skating is excellent for conditioning and working on puck handling skills

5.   Training at home – This is required of all players

·         100 (plus) shots

·         Stick handling & Passing

·         20 minutes cross training circuit

·         Sprinting and agility exercises

·         Assignments to improve hockey IQ

·         Player binder with drills, practice plans, diagrams, systems, etc.

 

 

Practice        

Balance of conditioning, individual skills and team concepts (systems)

1.   Breakdown of practice

a.    30 minute dryland

b.    Power skating, footwork, speed, puck handling

c.    Passing, puck movement, flow (repetition is the key)

d.    Small area games

e.    Team concepts – drills that simulate situations the players will face in games.  Systems will be introduced.

f.      Endurance and conditioning

 

Season          Conditioning, skills, team concepts

1.    August – Conditioning 70%.  Skills 30%

2.    September – Conditioning 30%.  Skills 50%.  TC 20%

3.    Oct thru Dec – Conditioning 20%.  Skills 40%.  TC 40%             (Regular Season)

4.    Jan, Feb – Conditioning 10%.  Skills 40%.  TC 50%                   (Playoffs)

5.    March – Conditioning 40%.  Skills 50%.  TC 10%

Mentoring Program

Utica Eisenhower – Robert Hall

*The Eisenhower H.S. hockey program has agreed to work with my team by supplying coaches and players to run some practices.  They will run drills and system play from their program.  This is a good way to introduce what will be expected of a player to play at the H.S. level*
